How this is made

Every page is generated from public records: City of Lakewood agendas, minutes and video (Granicus), the city's eComment portal, Lakewood City Schools agendas and roll-call votes (BoardDocs), and lakewoodoh.gov news posts. Headlines are assembled from official titles and recorded outcomes; nothing is inferred. Machine transcripts and machine speaker labels are marked and linked to the video moment. Official minutes supersede them. Topic filters are keyword matches on official titles.

Fields the design calls for that we don't have yet show “Not yet available” instead of a guess.

Glossary

Reading: Lakewood ordinances can be read at up to three meetings before passage. S.: a substitute version under the same number. Tabled, deferred, referred: set aside, postponed, or sent to committee. In code: placed into the Codified Ordinances by a later codification ordinance. Routine: procedural items (minutes, reports, codification ordinances), listed under “Also on the agenda”.

Police, fire and EMS lines

These are automated. A radio receiver in Lakewood records public police and fire dispatch traffic. Software transcribes it, and Claude, an AI model, groups the calls into incidents and writes one sentence for each. No person reviews a line before it appears, so lines can be wrong: a misheard street, two incidents merged into one, a category that doesn't fit, or a summary that overstates what happened. They are not police reports, not a crime map, and not official in any way. For official numbers, use the Lakewood Police daily bulletin (P2C).

Rules applied by software after the AI, before anything is published: no names, no house numbers or addresses, the street name at most (and none when a line describes a home), times rounded to half-hour windows, medical calls never described. Domestic calls, mental health crises, overdoses, deaths, juveniles, welfare checks and similar are never published at all. Lines are kept for 30 days.

The receiver misses some hours and some channels. An hour marked “nothing heard” is missing, not quiet.

To report a wrong or harmful line, say which page, day and time it appears under; we will correct or remove it.
